USA v Mexico Women's Soccer game

Wednesday night the USA Women's National Soccer team came to Salt Lake City to play Mexico. It snowed the whole day and then throughout the game. I've seen games played in the snow but never like this. They were shoveling the field when I got there, but they only shoveled the lines and the goal boxes. The rest of the field had about 2-3 inches of snow on it, maybe more in spots. I had bought a pretty good seat when I realized that no one else was going to be able to join me. It did not take long to realize that the place was not going to be full so I moved over a section to almost center field. Before the game started I took a moment to call my friend Ally and my parents to make sure they were watching the game. You could tell quickly it was going to be entertaining (although you might have to be a real fan to appreciate it).

I have been a fan of the team since the early 1990's but I have to admit that there are quite a few names I am not as familiar with these days. So it was great to see that Kristine Lilly is still on the field playing great soccer. It will be fun to watch these younger girls grow and develop over the next few years. But it is nice to have some familiar names to cheer for. Turns out she is the first player to play in four different decades. I also got to see two players get their first caps. Congratulations to Alex Morgan and Brittany Taylor!

It was a slow game due to the snow. But it was still a blast to watch. When Abby scored the only goal for the USA the players ran toward the corner flag and celebrated by making snow angels. What a great way to enjoy a goal in the snow. Before that I was worried that the players were swearing to never return to Salt Lake City. Hopefully they will come back. I'm sure we could bring out more than 3300 fans and hopefully warmer temps if they would try us again.
